Our Story
Heritage Baptist Church was formed in 2005 with a clear and simple desire: to gather around God’s Word and worship God according to the pattern revealed in the New Testament.
Located in Huntsville, Alabama, Heritage is a sovereign grace believing church holding to what is commonly known as reformed theology, as expressed in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith.
From the beginning, the aim has been faithfulness rather than innovation. Scripture is sufficient. Christ is central. The local church is God’s ordained means for strengthening believers and making Him known.
Heritage is a congregation of ordinary believers seeking to grow steadily in the knowledge of Christ, to love one another sincerely, and to reflect His character in everyday life.

OUR MISSION
To magnify the fullness of God through the knowledge of His Son Jesus Christ for the good of others.
While God is sovereign and will preserve truth, He uses churches to uphold the truth of His word like pillars and foundations uphold buildings.
We desire to uphold and stand upon the absolute and unchanging truth of God’s word in an increasingly skeptical and unmoored society and to pass on to the next generation the scriptural truth committed to us by our forefathers (2 Timothy 2:2) that we might be a habitation of God through the Spirit (Ephesians 2:20).
We exist not only to know truth as it is in Christ Jesus but to love and delight in the Savior in a way that spreads the reality of His supremacy and loveliness to others.

At Heritage, the doctrine of God’s sovereignty sustains us and gives us hope. It revives us when we are cast down. It comforts us when we are forsaken by men. It motivates us to godly living and boldness in our culture.

Heritage is grounded in the authority and sufficiency of scripture.
We affirm historic Baptist convictions and Reformed theology as summarized in the
1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith.

1. The Bible is the infallibly inspired and authoritative Word of God
2. God is sovereign in creation, providence and salvation
3. Salvation is entirely the work of God’s grace through Jesus Christ
4. Christ accomplished redemption through His death and resurrection
5. Sinners are justified by grace through faith in Christ alone
6. The Holy Spirit regenerates and preserves true believers
7. The church is called to worship, discipleship, fellowship, and evangelismOur Story

OUR COVENANT
Church membership at Heritage is a meaningful and joyful commitment. Members covenant together to pursue unity, gather faithfully for worship, walk in repentance and faith, and encourage one another toward spiritual maturity.
We believe lasting growth happens within committed community. Our covenant reflects a shared desire to live faithfully before the Lord and lovingly toward one another.

LEADERSHIP
Heritage is led by pastors who are committed to guiding and caring for the church community with humility, dedication and love. With Christ and His word at the center, answers for life are found in the doctrine of God’s sovereign grace, a biblical view of God and man, the glorious Gospel and the hope it brings to fallen man.
Our deacons serve and support our pastors by addressing some of the physical needs and practical aspects of church management and logistics.
Together they help ensure that Heritage remains faithful to its mission and convictions. Leadership at Heritage is shared, prayerful, and grounded in Scripture.

Mike Stewart, Pastor
Mike was born and raised in central Mississippi. After graduating from Mississippi State in 1986, God changed his course of direction with a deep conviction of sin and desire to follow Christ. He then met his wife, Peggy, while attending church in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1998, he was ordained to the ministry in BelAir, Maryland, and ultimately moved to Huntsville, Alabama, to begin his first pastorate. In 2005, Heritage was formed and called him to be her founding pastor.

Titus Cannon, Pastor
Titus has lived in five Southern states but has gladly called Alabama home since 2005. He and his wife Cammy have 10 children. Baptized at the young age of eight, he has long had a love for the Lord. After a debilitating injury in 2012 he learned to lean on God in many ways. Through this experience, God called him to not just be a student of the Word but also a messenger of the Word. He was ordained to ministry in 2021.
